Status of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in India

The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), launched in December 2000, aims to enhance rural road connectivity across India. As of August 2025, over 838,592 km of roads have been sanctioned, with 783,795 km constructed. The scheme includes various phases, such as PMGSY-II for upgrading roads, RCPLWEA for areas affected by Left Wing Extremism, and PMGSY-III for consolidating major rural links. A new phase IV is set to provide connectivity to 25,000 unconnected habitations. The initiative has significantly improved access to essential services and contributed to socio-economic development in rural areas.
