Strategies to Double Farmers' Income in India by 2025

The Government of India implemented an Inter-ministerial Committee in 2016 aiming to double the income of farmers. The Committee's report, released in 2018, outlines seven key areas for growth, such as improving crop and livestock productivity, and increasing resource efficiency and cropping intensity. Various government schemes have been rolled out to address issues like rising input costs and marketing problems while encouraging diversification towards high-value crops. The Indian Council on Agricultural Research (ICAR) has documented success stories of farmers doubling their incomes through these initiatives. The survey data reflects an increase in average monthly income for agricultural households from ₹6,426 in 2012-13 to ₹10,218 in 2018-19.
