Strengthening Cooperative Societies in India

The Indian government has approved a plan to establish 2 lakh new multipurpose PACS, Dairy, and Fishery Cooperative Societies across all Panchayats and villages over five years. This initiative aims to strengthen the cooperative movement at the grassroots level, utilizing existing government schemes and support from various national boards. As of June 30, 2025, 22,606 new societies have been registered, with specific targets set for Andhra Pradesh. The Ministry of Cooperation has also launched a Standard Operating Procedure to ensure effective implementation of the plan.
