Strengthening Fisheries Sector in India

The Coastal States Fisheries Meet 2025, held on April 28, 2025, in Mumbai, saw the inauguration of key projects for seven Coastal States and Union Territories with a total investment of Rs. 255 crores under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). The Department of Fisheries is implementing a National Rollout Plan for Vessel Communication, aiming to install transponders on 100,000 marine fishing vessels. Additionally, three Regional Fisheries Management Councils have been established to resolve inter-state fishing disputes. The Marine Fisheries Census 2025 has also been launched to gather comprehensive data on marine fisher households and infrastructure across coastal states.
