Supreme Court of India Integrates AI Tools to Enhance Legal System
The Supreme Court of India is integrating advanced technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its subsets like Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP), into the country's legal system through the eCourts Project. This initiative aims to improve various aspects of the judicial process such as translation, prediction, filing automation, and case management. AI tools like Legal Research Analysis Assistant (LegRAA) and Digital Courts 2.1 are being developed to aid judges in legal research and documentation. The Supreme Court, in collaboration with IIT Madras, is also testing AI-based tools for defect identification and metadata extraction. A dedicated AI Committee has been established to explore the potential applications of AI in judiciary processes, with significant funding allocated under the eCourts Project Phase-III for future technological advancements including AI and blockchain.
