Surplus Rice and Wheat Stocks in India

As of July 1, 2025, the Government of India reports surplus stocks of rice and wheat significantly above buffer norms, with total stocks of 736.61 Lakh MT compared to buffer norms of 411.20 Lakh MT. To manage market prices and enhance food availability, the government sells surplus grains through the Open Market Sales Scheme (OMSS). Additionally, stock limits on wheat have been imposed to prevent hoarding and speculation. The initiative aims to ensure food security and affordability for consumers.
