Sustainable Management of Water Resources in India

The Ministry of Jal Shakti has initiated comprehensive measures to monitor glaciers and glacial lakes in the Indian Himalayan Region. A Steering Committee has been formed to coordinate efforts among various ministries and organizations. The Central Water Commission is the nodal agency overseeing 902 glacial lakes, while other institutes like the National Disaster Management Authority and Geological Survey of India contribute to monitoring and research. Various projects aim to enhance data-driven approaches for sustainable water resource management, including the National Hydrology Project and National Water Informatics Centre.
