Expansion of Inland Waterways in India by 2027

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced plans to operationalize 76 new National Waterways by 2027, aiming for a cargo volume increase to 156 million tonnes per annum by 2026. The initiative will expand inland waterways from 11 states to 23 states and 4 Union Territories, supported by a ₹5,000 crore
