The PM-WANI Scheme Advances Public Wi-Fi Network in India

The Government of India, under the PM-WANI scheme, has successfully expanded public Wi-Fi accessibility nationwide with over 409,403 hotspots, as stated by Union Minister Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia in a recent Rajya Sabha session. As of February 2026, nearly 2.45 crore internet users have utilized these hotspots, consuming around 58.64 petabytes of data. The scheme adopts a decentralised model encouraging local entrepreneurs, with significant efforts towards cost reduction, revenue enhancement, and improved user experience for rural and remote areas.
