TRAI Initiatives Lead to Lowest Mobile Service Costs in India
In a report to the Rajya Sabha, Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, the Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, highlighted that India enjoys some of the lowest mobile service costs globally. This is attributed to the effective policies and regulatory framework enforced by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). A comparison by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) shows India's mobile service price at USD 1.86, significantly lower than in several neighboring and international economies. The regulatory environment in India allows providers to set competitive pricing while meeting regulatory standards, fostering India's potential as a global data hub.
