TRAI Launches Digital Consent Pilot for SMS Notifications
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has initiated a Digital Consent Acquisition (DCA) pilot program in collaboration with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to digitize and standardize consent for promotional communications. Under this pilot, SMS notifications will be sent to a selected number of customers by nine Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) and eleven major banks, allowing customers to digitally review, manage, and revoke previously given consents for promotional communications. This initiative seeks to address gaps in existing consent practices and test the readiness of a unified digital consent platform before a nationwide rollout.
