TRAI Mandates Pre-Tagging of SMS Variables to Combat Fraud
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has mandated the pre-tagging of variable components in SMS content templates to prevent misuse in commercial communication. This requirement aims to enhance the identification and scrubbing of potentially harmful links and numbers, thereby strengthening anti-fraud measures. Access Providers and Principal Entities must modify existing templates within 60 days, or non-compliant messages will be rejected. This initiative is part of TRAI's efforts to ensure public safety and restore trust in digital messaging channels.
