TRAI Revises Tariff Framework for PM-WANI Scheme
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has introduced a new tariff framework under the PM-WANI scheme, mandating that retail FTTH broadband plans up to 200 Mbps be offered to Public Data Offices (PDOs) at prices not exceeding twice the consumer broadband rate. This move aims to reduce costs for PDOs, enhance internet access, and promote digital inclusion across India. The reforms are expected to make public Wi-Fi more affordable and encourage local businesses to participate in the PM-WANI initiative, which currently boasts over 333,000 hotspots nationwide.
