Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), the Indian government has approved the conversion of 1000 fisheries cooperative societies into Fish Farmers Producer Organizations (FFPOs) with full central financial assistance. This initiative, announced by the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, aims to boost economic empowerment for fishers across the country. The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) is steering these transformations, with additional concessional finance and technical support provided. A total budget of Rs. 225.50 crore has been allocated for this endeavor, further accelerated by the registration of 70 new FFPOs at a cost of Rs. 37.80 crore.
