Transforming Cooperative Societies in Southern India: A Digital Push

The Ministry of Cooperation has launched multiple initiatives to transform Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) across Tamil Nadu and Southern India. With the digitization efforts through the PACS Computerization Project, over 79,630 PACS are being integrated into a national ERP software to improve transparency, governance, and operational diversity. This initiative is supported by a significant financial outlay, ensuring PACS can offer more services, including digital accounting and online service delivery. The Ministry is also updating Model Byelaws to allow societies to diversify into various business activities beyond credit services, fostering a stronger cooperative movement.
