Tribal Empowerment Efforts in Tamil Nadu Highlighted by Indian Government

The Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs, in response to a Lok Sabha query, detailed the ongoing Development Action Plan for Scheduled Tribes (DAPST) aimed at uplifting Scheduled Tribes (STs) in Tamil Nadu. The initiative involves allocating budgets across 41 Ministries/Departments to close developmental disparities between STs and non-STs. Key focus areas include education, health, and infrastructure projects. Several schemes under the Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana, like the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) and the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Vikas Mission (PMJVM), target health, education, and sustainable livelihoods for tribal communities. Monitoring and outcome measurement is supported through online systems to ensure transparency and funding efficacy. Significant fund releases have been made towards pre-matric and post-matric scholarships in the state, benefiting thousands of students.
