Tribal Ministry Maintains Overseas Scholarships for Higher Education
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, under the Union Government, continues to offer financial aid through the National Overseas Scholarship (NOS) scheme for Scheduled Tribe students pursuing higher education abroad. Addressed in a Lok Sabha session, Union Minister Shri Jual Oram affirmed that 20 scholarships are awarded annually for students aiming to pursue Master’s, Ph.D., and Post-Doctoral courses. Eligibility is determined based on an annual parental income cap of Rs 6 lakhs, covering tuition, visa fees, maintenance, medical insurance, and travel expenses. Over the past decade, consistent budget allocations and disbursements have maintained the scholarship, and direct payments to recipient institutions are managed via Indian embassies, preventing payment backlogs. Detailed guidelines and historical budgetary distributions emphasize the government's ongoing commitment to this educational initiative.
