Tribal Status Proposal for Jhodia Community and Soura Language Recognition Discussed in Lok Sabha
Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Shri Durgadas Uikey, shared updates on two critical proposals: the inclusion of the Jhodia community in Odisha's Scheduled Tribes list as a synonym of Paroja, and the recognition of the Soura language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. The Jhodia proposal was not supported by the Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, India, and has been referred back to the State Government for further review. Meanwhile, the request to include Soura language, amid dynamic linguistic evolution, faces challenges due to the absence of fixed criteria for inclusion in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
