Underutilisation of PMMSY Funds: Challenges and Recommendations

The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has reported significant underutilisation of funds under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), primarily due to delays in compliance, unspent funds, and slow project execution. Despite approvals of nearly Rs. 13,924.23 crore for fisheries development in recent financial years, only Rs. 3622.54 crore has been released. The government is working towards improving the situation by implementing new fund flow mechanisms and increasing financial assistance for Scheduled Caste beneficiaries.
