Union Cabinet Approves New Small Hydro Power Development Scheme

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the 'Small Hydro Power (SHP) Development Scheme' for the fiscal years 2026-27 to 2030-31, with a budget of Rs.2584.60 crore to install Small Hydro Power projects with a total capacity of 1500 MW. The scheme aims to especially benefit hilly and North Eastern states by supporting projects ranging from 1-25 MW, with specific financial assistance for different regions. This initiative is expected to generate significant investment, promote local manufacturing under Atmanirbhar Bharat, and create employment opportunities during and after construction phases.
