Union Minister Urges West Bengal to Enhance Fisheries Registration and Exports
Union Minister for Fisheries, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh, emphasized the need for West Bengal to improve the registration of fish farmers with the National Fisheries Digital Platform (NFDP) during a Regional Review Meeting in Kolkata. He highlighted the low registration rates among the state's 32 lakh fish farmers, which limits their access to central benefits. The Minister called for better utilization of inland fisheries, development of cooperative structures, and a robust processing ecosystem. He also announced plans for a dry fish cluster to boost local employment and exports, while stressing the importance of new technologies and training for sustainable growth in the sector.
