Unraveling the Mystery of Solar Eruptions in Ladakh
Astronomers have revealed the details of a significant solar storm caused by a series of Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) that lit up the skies of Ladakh in May 2024. This unprecedented event, linked to six successive CMEs, disrupted satellite operations and power grids. A research team from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics studied the thermodynamic evolution of these CMEs, discovering that they change their thermal behavior during their journey to Earth. Their findings, published in the Astronomy and Astrophysics Journal, aim to improve space weather forecasting models.
