Update on National Sickle Cell Anemia Elimination Mission
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has reported significant progress under the National Sickle Cell Anemia Elimination Mission (NSCAEM), with over 6 crore screenings conducted in 17 tribal-dominated states. The ICMR has validated 30 Point of Care Tests and 5 Non-Rapid Diagnostic Test assays for Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) screening. A standardized cost of ₹100 per screening has been established, and 15 Centres of Excellence have been approved across 14 states to enhance care and support for SCD patients. Services include follow-up care, counseling, nutritional support, and wellness sessions.
