Water Quality Monitoring Mechanism Under Jal Jeevan Mission

The Government of India, in collaboration with States, has been implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) since August 2019 to ensure the provision of potable water to every rural household. As of August 2025, tap water connections have increased from 3.23 crore to over 15.68 crore households. The initiative includes setting up water quality testing laboratories and a Water Quality Management Information System (WQMIS) for monitoring and surveillance. Citizens can access water quality test results and submit grievances through various platforms. Training programs for community members to conduct water quality tests are also being promoted.
