Welfare and Support Schemes for Sportspersons

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has implemented various welfare schemes to support sportspersons and coaches in India. These include the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) for financial and training support, the Khelo India Scheme for talent development, and the Assistance to National Sports Federations (ANSF) for comprehensive athlete training. Additionally, a pension scheme for retired athletes and the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Program provide financial aid for injuries and hardships. Mental wellness support is also emphasized through the engagement of sports psychologists. The government has introduced the Khelo Bharat Niti-2025 and a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system to ensure timely financial assistance to beneficiaries.
