Circular Economy in Agriculture: Turning Waste into Wealth in India

In India, the growing scale of agricultural waste presents both environmental challenges and economic opportunities. The country generates 350 million tonnes of agricultural waste annually, which can be transformed into 18,000 MW of power and organic fertilizers to promote soil health. The government is actively promoting circular economy principles through initiatives like the Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan (GOBARdhan) and Crop Residue Management programs to convert waste into valuable resources. These efforts align with global Sustainable Development Goals and aim to balance economic growth with ecological sustainability, potentially resulting in a $2 trillion market by 2050 and creating 10 million jobs.
