Current Progress of Namami Gange Programme as of 2025

As of October 2025, the Namami Gange Programme sanctioned 513 projects aimed at cleaning the Ganga River, with a significant portion dedicated to sewage infrastructure creation due to domestic and industrial waste pollution. Out of these, 344 projects are completed, showcasing improvements in water parameters like pH and Dissolved Oxygen, meeting the bathing criteria across the river, except at specific stretches in Uttar Pradesh. The biological water quality remains good or moderate, supported by a diverse aquatic ecosystem. Notably, the dolphin population has doubled since 2009, pointing to ecological recovery. Budget allocations over five years amounted to ₹11,100 crore, aiding multiple states in clean-up efforts without specific state-wise allocations.
