ECI Enforces Strict Silence Period and Exit Poll Ban for 2026 General Elections

The Election Commission of India has announced the timetable for the 2026 General Elections in various states and a strict enforcement of Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, which bans the display of election matter during the silence period before polls. An additional ban on exit polls and their dissemination has been enacted between April 9, 2026, and April 29, 2026, to ensure fair electoral practices.
