ECI Introduces QR-Based ID System to Enhance Security

To enhance security at counting centres during elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has introduced a QR code–based Photo Identity Card system. This system is to be implemented starting with the upcoming General Elections on May 4, 2026, and will apply to all future elections. It includes a three-tier security process, culminating in QR code verification for authorized personnel. Additionally, media personnel will have designated facilities nearby and will enter using ECI-issued authority letters.
