Government's Initiative Reduces Electricity Distribution Companies' Debts Drastically
The Indian government implemented the Electricity (Late Payment Surcharge and Related Matters) Rules, 2022, which resulted in the rescheduling of dues from state electricity distribution companies into equated monthly installments. This initiative has successfully reduced outstanding legacy dues significantly from ₹1,39,947 crores in June 2022 to ₹4,109 crores as of February 10, 2026. The positive payment improvements suggest no need for additional liquidation plans.
