Implementation of Aadhaar-Based Payments in NREGS

The Ministry of Rural Development has mandated the Aadhaar Payment Bridge System (APBS) for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) starting January 1, 2024, to ensure timely wage payments and reduce issues related to bank account changes. APBS enhances transparency, accountability, and reduces corruption by ensuring that only verified beneficiaries receive wages. Currently, 99.65% of Aadhaar seeding has been completed for 12.12 crore active workers, with ongoing monitoring to achieve full compliance. The Ministry regularly reviews the implementation of APBS through various evaluation mechanisms.
