India Sets Ambitious Goals for Nuclear Energy Expansion by 2047

India aims to achieve 100 GW nuclear power capacity by 2047, backed by initiatives such as the Nuclear Energy Mission and the SHANTI Act. The government plans to involve the private sector in nuclear power projects and develop five indigenous Small Modular Reactors by 2033. Currently, 17 nuclear reactors are under construction, targeting a capacity of 13,600 MW with plans to increase this to 22 GW by 2031-32.
