India to Launch Nationwide Mobile-Based Disaster Alert System
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia are set to launch a nationwide mobile-based disaster communication system on 2nd May 2026. Developed by the Department of Telecommunications in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority, the system aims to ensure rapid dissemination of emergency alerts through SMS and innovative Cell Broadcast (CB) technology. The system can target specific geographic areas swiftly and has already delivered over 134 billion alerts in 19 languages.
