Indian Railways Achieves Remarkable Freight Growth with DFC Operations and GCT Initiatives
The Ministry of Railways reports that Indian Railways has substantially increased its freight loading from 1,098 Metric Tonnes (MT) in 2014-15 to an expected 1,670 MT in 2025-26, highlighting successful initiatives such as the Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFCs) and Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminals (GCTs). These measures aim to enhance logistics efficiency, regional connectivity, and modal share through terminal development, wagon investments, and improved parcel services. A new freight corridor connecting Dankuni to Surat is also set to be established.
