Indian Railways Implements AI System to Prevent Elephant Collisions

Indian Railways has launched an AI-enabled Intrusion Detection System to prevent elephant collisions on railway tracks in 141 kilometers (RKms) of the NF Railway. The system employs a Distributed Acoustic System (DAS) that alerts loco pilots, station masters, and control rooms about elephants near the tracks, allowing for timely preventive action. Additionally, tenders have been granted to extend this technology across 981 RKms. This initiative, along with other AI-driven maintenance systems, represents ongoing technological advancement within Indian Railways, aimed at enhancing safety and operational efficiency.
