These initiatives include installing Supercritical and Ultra-Supercritical units, enhancing energy efficiency through the Perform Achieve and Trade (PAT) scheme, and promoting the co-firing of biomass pellets in coal power plants. Additionally, stringent norms for reducing stack emissions are enforced. NTPC's recent development of a 20 TPD Pilot Carbon Capture Project marks a pivotal advance. As of October 2025, coal constitutes 43.22% of the nation's installed thermal power capacity.
