Innovative Financing for Ganga Clean-Up Projects
The Ministry of Jal Shakti, in collaboration with the National Mission for Clean Ganga, has approved a digital twin project under IIT Delhi's Centre of Excellence to enhance decision-making processes using AI and hydrological modeling. This initiative is a part of a broader effort to clean the Ganga, including a Hybrid Annuity Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to improve sewerage infrastructure performance by tying payments to sewage treatment plant efficiency. Additionally, studies on glacier melt in the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda basins aim to assess climatic impacts using advanced monitoring technologies. This approach aims to ensure transparency and shared financial risks between the government and private sectors. All costs are borne by the central government as grants to the states.
