NESIDS Projects Propel Infrastructure Growth in Assam

The North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS), initiated in 2017-18, focuses on improving infrastructure in the North Eastern regions of India, particularly in Assam. Since its restructuring in 2022-23 into NESIDS (Roads) and NESIDS (Other Than Roads Infrastructure), the scheme has significantly enhanced road connectivity and socio-economic development in the area. An impact assessment by IIM Shillong reveals that these development projects have helped in boosting trade, tourism, and regional growth, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals 9 and 11. In Assam, 20 road projects were sanctioned under the scheme, with 14 already complete and none pending due to land or clearance issues.
