Government Addresses Over 140 TV Violations in Five Years
The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting reported that over 140 violations of the Programme and Advertising Codes were acted upon in the last five years. Television channels are bound by the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, which mandates adherence to these Codes. Violations include obscenity, attacks on religions, and content that promotes communal attitudes. A three-level grievance mechanism addresses these violations, with actions ranging from advisories to cancellation of permissions. Efforts also extend to print and digital media under various regulations.
