India Launches Nationwide Campaign to Eradicate Lymphatic Filariasis by 2027
Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda launched a nationwide Mass Drug Administration (MDA) campaign aimed at eliminating Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) in 12 endemic states of India by 2027, surpassing the global target of 2030. The initiative focuses on direct treatment observation, vector control, and community engagement to combat LF, which severely affects health, productivity, and social well-being. The campaign will unify MDA efforts into an annual program to enhance efficiency and coverage, aided by government ministries and departments working collaboratively. Success will require overcoming challenges like public hesitancy and maintaining a microfilaria rate of below 1% in all target areas.
