Overview of Functional Cooperative Societies in India

As of March 31, 2025, India has 8.37 lakh cooperative societies, with 6.45 lakh being functional and serving over 31 crore members. West Bengal alone has 32,020 cooperative societies across various sectors, including agriculture and credit. The Ministry of Cooperation has allocated funds for the computerization of Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies (PACS) in the state, with detailed financial grants provided by the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) over the past five years.
